The Magic of Shea Butter

The Shea nut tree (butyrospermum parkii), also known as the "karite tree", is a native of the Savannah region of West Africa.   The tree is stout and can grow up to 20 meters tall, bearing leathery oval leaves with edible plum like fruit. For our shea butter, the nut of the shea fruit is expeller pressed to yield this precious emollient.  Shea butter protects and revitalizes the driest, most chapped troubled skin around...just ask Egyptian empress Cleopatra, she used it to keep her skin buttery smooth and protect it against the harsh weather of Africa!

Shea butter has been used in Africa for centuries.  In addition to being an extraordinary moisturizer, shea butter has long been a staple of African pharmacology and cosmetics to heal dry skin, smooth away cuts and minor irritations, ease muscle aches and protect against the harsh environment.  Today shea butter, with the initiative of mostly women, has helped many village economies get back on their feet as an essential tradable good.
